sixty years later

Consumption.
Spring Break.

I feel that often the two can go hand in hand. Mine started right off the back by walking into the door; Briefly greeted by a very excited pup and then I was handed a bag...a bag by my mother...with a dress inside. A wedding dress. A wedding dress from the 1970's. At first I thought - "Ummm...seriously, mom, thanks but no thanks." THEN I realized that "Oh my gosh. This is a real wedding dress from the 70's-how cool!!!" THEEEEN I opened it up to look at it...

...Hideous.
Completely and utterly hideous. I'm not even going to show pictures of it.

You see, I'm in process of collecting receipts to create a wedding dress entirely based on the concept of 'consumption' with materials made of nothing but, well-receipts. So she found this for me as a model to work off of. Still...it was hideous. I wonder if later down the years we'll look back on our styles that we are so 'consumed' with now and find them...hideous? I'm sure we will. However, why is it that we are in constant cycles of repeating styles from previous eras? 'The classics.' I'm still obsessed with many of them...
